The Irish Stick Back Chair

After making several of this type of chair I am beginning to understand the challenge the Bodgers of Old faced when working with their limited access to power tools.  This one was a commissioned work .

The wood used is mainly Oak but with a Holly back rest. Joints are glued and wedged without screws or nails. 

 Biscuit joints are hidden within the actual seat to add to the overall robustness. 

 

 

 My once spacy garage is becoming increasingly cluttered with wood and tools and machinery. I fortunately have a kind neighbour who took this video to show what it is to be creative.

Most days I manage to create enough dust and debris to fuel the home log burner, so nothing goes to waste.

I am being wound up just a little here, which adds something to the joy of making things for the fun of it.
